2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)
The TPO's Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is the cornerstone of the transportation planning process for the Ocala/Marion County planning area.
The LRTP serves as a twenty-five (2025 to 2050) year blueprint for transportation improvements for the entire county that considers all surface modes of transportation, including roadways, transit, bicycles, pedestrians, trails, and freight.
The development of Navigating the Future 2050 LRTP was based on an extensive participatory process with input from partners, stakeholders, and the citizens of Marion County.
The overall Vision of the 2050 LRTP is to “Develop a safe, accessible, and efficient multimodal transportation system to best serve the community and environment.”
The LRTP document outlines the current status of transportation in Marion County and the anticipated future growth and development. Based on this information, the LRTP includes an analysis of future needs and potential solutions. The solutions incorporate a variety of considerations, such as funding availability, safety, and subsequent environmental, economic and social impacts. To ensure the recommendations are financially feasible, projects included in the plan are linked to specific funding sources in a Cost Feasible element.
The LRTP is required by federal law and state statute to be updated every five years to remain congruent with changes in population, travel demand and emerging technologies.
The TPO Board adopted the 2050 LRTP on November 13, 2025.
